UPDATE:
04.23.07, 8:29pm, White Marlin Marina / Ocean City, MD:
We've
just tied up for the night. Today was another beautiful day. We
finally got out of the rootbeer colored water and made it to the
green waters of the cold North Atlantic. We chopped up another 120
nautical miles leaving Portsmouth, VA last night. We're on a tight
schedule with more shooting taking place tonight. However, we took
advantage of some sea time to grab some highlights. We hope you're
all doing well. Stay tuned for more updates. Our route has leaving
tomorrow at first light and headed for our next fuel stop in Jersey
City -- just across from Manhatten. That will be it before our last
leg into Montauk.

Later,
when we finally decided to get something to eat, we saw some neon
beckoning from across the marina and ended up at 'Bahama Mama's'
and some kickass cold weather food including one of the best sandwiches
I've ever had in my life -- no exaggeration. It was a crab salad
sandwich -- one like I've never had before. Thanks to the crew for
takin' care of us weary seamen. |

UPDATE
4:00am ... the next morning:
So it was said to us time and time and time again by everyone from
Rich Freda to the cab driver to passersby. 'I see you lookin' at
the bar across the street from where your boat's tied up. I recommend
you DO NOT go in there. That's the dreaded Harbor Inn; known in
certain circles and for good reason as The Bloody Bucket. Captain
Rich said he saw a guy get thrown through the front window, western
style, a few years earlier. The cab driver advised to only enter
if we had a gun, a knife and a really mean doberman pincer. Rumor
had it the Harbor Inn, est. in 1935 had the dubious distinction
of being the most dangerous bar in Ocean City. Hell -- the eastern
seaboard for the matter!
Well,
you know kids. If you tell 'em enough times not to do something
... what usually happens? After taking care of some business, the
hypnotic glow of the neon sign was, once again, something like a
magnet. Around 1:30, we decided not to miss last call. How bad could
it be? There was only one way to find out. As we crossed the street
and entered the place, it felt like a scene out of a Clint Eastwood
movie ... the whole place got quiet, then we were stared down and
sized up ... and a few tense moments later, the lovely barmaid asked,
'What can I get ys?'
Scary stuff, huh? |
 |
Turns
out we had ourselves the usual harmless good time we've become accomstomed
when traveling to strange, new places. They took us in and showed
us a great time until last call. We even got to watch a few of them
piling diving into the frigid harbor next to the Cricket before
we watched a satellite launch just before 4am. All we can say is
thanks for the hangover, the laughs and the t-shirts. You all kick
ass and there's no doubt in our mind where we'll be wetting our
whistle the next time we're in Ocean City.
