Outdoor
Adventure Television Meets its Match in 'The WILD Life'©.
Ride
along as Sean and Brooks Paxton Join Forces With Frank 'The Monster
Man' Mundus to bring viewers up close and personal with some of
the world's most dangerous and endangered wildlife species in a
series where adventure, research, history, conservation, and rock
& roll collide.
In
1951 the 'Monster Man', as Mundus came to be known, pioneered the
sport of shark fishing, and for an era spanning nearly a half-century
prowled the waters of the north Atlantic at the helm of his trusted
vessel, Cricket II. Over the years, he captured thousands of sharks
including the world’s largest. During the same period he contributed
to scientific shark research and preservation through innovations
and groundbreaking firsts such as his invention of the shark cage
and pivotal role in starting the first scientific shark-tagging
program ever used.
The
fiction writer inside Peter Benchley's head was inspired by the
pioneering feats of this flamboyant character, and in the 1970's,
the world would see this inspiration come to life. First, in a book
and then on the big screen in the first summer blockbuster ever
-- JAWS. 'Quint', the now infamous, shark-hunting character in the
film would become Hollywood's portrayal of the very real deal. Simply
put, Frank Mundus is the real 'Quint' and Cricket
II is the real 'Orca'.
The
Paxton Brothers’ (Sean and Brooks) fascination and hands-on
experience with dangerous marine life began in the 1970’s
when, while performing with their family on a musical tour, they
found themselves standing in a packed movie theater watching JAWS.
By the time the credits rolled, their lives had changed forever.
Soon after, they discovered the true story behind this movie, and
ultimately, the wheels of fate were set in motion.
In
2005, they formed a unique bond and alliance with Frank and his
wife, Jenny, to share their passion for outdoor adventure and marine
wildlife with the world. After many months of shared effort to rescue
and restore the Cricket II, The Paxton Brothers joined Frank Mundus
in Montauk in June of 2007 to film portions of the series and document
their lives together during what is likely to be The Monster Man’s
last great adventure there. They've been joined by Co-Executive
Producer Bert Pence, former marketing executive with New Line Cinema,
now affiliated with NBC, and are currently filming and developing
the series together.
Jim
Rosenthal, President of New Line Cinema Television stated recently
in the New
York Times, “Frank is great entertainment, and we think
it could make a compelling show. All three of them are larger-than-life
characters, and it’s a cool story, From Frank’s history
to them getting the boat back and on and on.”
