August 8th greeted us with a cold, wet and windy start. It was good news to Brooks & I due to the prospect of catching a little 'Deadliest Catch' style footage. Our special guests on this day were the Dodd Brothers and close friends. You may recall in a previous segment about his role in securing and returning the side pulpits. This was a chance to return the favor and there wasn't anyone on board that could think of a better way.

We're in a rush to get this segment uploaded and will return to provide some key captions. In the meantime, you'll see, it was a hell of a trip that resulted in the catch, tag and release of a fat little mako shark, a stubborn big blue, 3 other blues and one load of mystery meat that pulled hard and straight down. Thanks again to John Dodd and crew. We'll see you soon.

Frank personally tagged this mako. The video sequence of that and this fish at boatside shot from the pulpits is awesome. On a weather day like this, you never know what to expect, but this mako picked up a strip bait in less than 30 minutes from lines in. The subsequent action with the blues was fast-paced with 4 being tagged and released within about 2 hours. This sequence also demonstrates clearly, the circle hook doing exactly what it's designed to do -- hooking the fish right in the corner of the jaw, making for an easy release and no trauma to the fish. The newly placed tag is also visible in several shots.
My bird's eye view from the starboard side pulpit. Note the even horizon above and the dip below. I told you these things are fun to ride -- especially when you're out on the end.

It brings us great pleasure to thank some very special people and organizations for their vital role in making this a all a reality. Without their continued help, expertise, support, and friendship, the road to Montauk and beyond would've been a hell of a lot steeper.
